About Lanzarote

Lanzarote lies in the Atlantic ocean in the Tropic of Cancer and is the Easterly of the Canary Islands. The Island is 37 miles long and 12 miles wide. Tourism is now the basis of the Islands economy with approximately 125000 inhabitants.

Arrecife being the capitol of the island and also the main commercial area. The airport is only a short distance from Arrecife and all the resorts with flights to and from the U.K most days of the week.

Lanzarote is the perfect all year round destination due to it's dry mild climate with temperatures averaging from approximately 21 degrees in January to 29 degrees in August with very little rainfall throughout the year.

There are no high rise buildings on Lanzarote except for the Grand Hotel in Arrecife, which has had a complete refurbishment over the last few years. At the top of the hotel you can have a coffee and cake for about three Euros.

Lanzarote is of volcanic origin with many areas covered by lava due to the volcanic eruptions which took place over a six year period, 1730 - 1736 .

La cueva de los Verdes and Jamos del agua were formed at this time being part of the Atlantida tunnel which stretches over seven kilometers.

Lanzarote has several lovely beaches such as Papagao, near to Playa Blanca which itself has some beautiful beaches. There are also lovely beaches at Puerto del Carmen and Famara.

Lanzarote has seven municiplities, Arrecife, Haria, Teguise, Tias, Yaiza, San Bartolome and Tinajo.
