La Geria
La Geria is an area of vineyards, which is the wine growing region of Lanzarote.
La Geria is situated between Uga in the south and San Bartolome.
The view here is one of thousands of pits where the vines are cultivated, these are protected from the wind by semi circular stones, the land is covered by porous volcanic ash to
help to retain the moisture due to the small amount of rainfall and also to help protect them from the strong rays of the sun.
The Malvasia grape was brought to Lanzarote from Crete during the 18 century and are cultivated differently than anywhere else in the world.
The wine is said to be excellent, once very sweet but now has been changed to a more normal Spanish type of wine.
