Puerto Del Carmen
Puerto del Carmen is situated on the East
coast of Lanzarote approximately half way down the Island set
at the foot of a range of hills and is approximately a ten
minute drive from the airport. Puerto del Carmen originally a
fishing village, is the main tourist resort of the Island,
from the old town with it's old worldly charm, one will find
the quaint old harbour where there are excursions to Los
Lobos, Fuerteventura and also a glass bottom boat. There are
also fishing trips, a water taxi and a multitude of different
restaurants. In the evening you may see the locals playing
French boules in the area of the old harbour, quite
interesting and they do appear to be very competitive.Away
from the harbour in the old town there are also many
restaurants and bars to relax in and enjoy the local cuisine
together with entertainment in the evening. The
nearest beach is a five minute stroll from the old harbour,
Playa Chica which is a small beach, very friendly and
relaxing. It is normally quite sandy with numerous volcanic
rocks and quite well sheltered from the wind. It also is very
a popular place e for snorkeling and scuba diving with a diving
centre situated at the side of the beach. There are also water
sports activities including banana boat rides and jet skiing. On
leaving the old town traveling up the main street you will see
one of Lanzarotes newest buildings, the biosphere where you
will find many shops, bars, internet cafe and amusements. Turning
right and following the main road you will come to the new
part where there are a good selection of shops, restaurants
and bars together with beaches of golden sand. If you fancy a
flutter the casino is situated in the new part, traveling on
one will reach Los Pocillos and Matagorda again with lovely
beaches, the Playa Blanca beach and Los Pocillos are the
largest, there are also a good selection of shops restaurants
and bars. Most of the Islands nightlife is in the new part of
Puerto del Carmen.
